Everything you need to know about starting therapy
Getting started is simple. You can call me on 07951 862205, email [email protected], or use the contact form on this website. I offer a free initial consultation where we can discuss your needs, answer any questions, and determine if we're a good fit to work together.
The first session is about getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We'll discuss your current situation, what you hope to achieve, and how we can work together. I'll explain how therapy works, discuss confidentiality, and answer any questions you have. There's no pressure - this is your time to see if you feel comfortable working with me.
No preparation is necessary. Just come as you are. It can be helpful to think about what's prompted you to seek therapy and what you'd like to achieve, but we can explore this together during the session. The most important thing is that you're ready to take this step.
Counselling can benefit anyone who wants to understand themselves better, work through challenges, or make positive changes in their life. You don't need to be in crisis to seek support. If you're experiencing difficulties with relationships, emotions, life transitions, stress, or simply feel stuck, counselling could be helpful. The free initial consultation is a great opportunity to explore whether it's right for you.
Sessions are 60 minutes duration. The frequency depends on your individual needs and circumstances. Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly sessions, though we can discuss what works best for you during our initial meeting.
This varies greatly depending on your individual situation and goals. Some people find a few sessions helpful, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly review your progress together and you're free to continue therapy for as long as it feels beneficial. There's no minimum or maximum number of sessions required.
Life happens and I understand that sometimes you need to reschedule. Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or change your appointment. This allows me to offer the time to someone else. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) or missed appointments may be charged at the full session rate.
Sessions are primarily offered face-to-face at our practice in Market Harborough. However, I understand that online sessions can be more convenient for some clients. Please contact me to discuss options that might work for your situation.
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Everything you share remains private and is not disclosed to anyone without your explicit consent. The only exceptions are if there's a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law. These limits will be explained fully during our first session.
No. Your attendance and all information discussed in sessions is completely confidential. I will not contact you without your permission, and I will not share any information about your therapy with anyone unless you explicitly consent or in the rare circumstances outlined above.
30-Minute free Consultation. £68.00 per 60-minute session thereafter.
Payment is typically due at the time of each session. I accept cash and bank transfer. Payment details and arrangements will be discussed during your initial consultation.
Some private health insurance policies cover counselling. I can provide receipts that you can submit to your insurance provider. Please check with your insurance company about their counselling coverage and requirements and discuss at first session. I also accept Employment Assisted Programs.
The terms counselling and therapy are often used interchangeably and there's significant overlap. Both involve talking with a trained professional about your concerns in a safe, confidential setting. At Blossoms Counselling, I use both terms to describe the same service.
Not necessarily. While early experiences can be relevant, therapy focuses on what's most helpful for you. Some people find it useful to explore their past, while others prefer to concentrate on present challenges and future goals. You're always in control of what we discuss.
That's completely normal, especially in early sessions. I'll help guide our conversations and create a comfortable environment where thoughts and feelings can emerge naturally. There's no pressure to have everything figured out - that's what therapy helps with.
Getting emotional is a natural and healthy part of therapy. The therapy room is a safe space where all emotions are welcome. Crying, anger, frustration - these are all normal responses as you process difficult experiences. I'll support you through whatever comes up.
Don't hesitate to get in touch. I'm happy to answer any questions you have about therapy and how I can support you.
